What is included in the duties of an au pair?
Au pairs provide childcare while living with your family. Au pairs work no more than 10 hours per day with a maximum of 45 hours per week. Au pairs can help with tasks related to children such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation to school and extracurricular activities, bathing of the children, children’s laundry, etc. Au pairs cannot be charged with tasks related to the care of the host parents, pets or extended family members. Your au pair can help out with family duties that everyone in the household share in, such as helping load the dishwasher after dinner and cleaning up after themselves.
Can my au pair work extra hours if I pay them for the extra hours worked?
No. Au pairs cannot work more than 10 hours per day, 45 hours per week.
Can my au pair care for my children when I am out of town?
Au pairs cannot provide childcare for more than 10 hours per day. This would still apply when you are out of town, including hours when children are asleep. Sleeping hours count towards the 45 maximum-hour limit. So, you would need to make additional childcare arrangements to cover the time outside of your au pair’s working hour limits.
Do all au pairs speak English?
All au pairs speak some level of English and screening in their home countries is done in English. Levels of English vary from proficient to that of a native speaker. The interview will help you determine whether an au pair’s level of English matches your family’s needs.
Are au pairs legally authorized to live in the United States?
Au pairs travel to the U.S. on J-1 visas. The J-1 visa allows au pairs to live in the United States legally for up to two years.
How long will it take for my au pair to arrive to my home after matching?
Once selecting the right au pair for your family, generally it takes about 8-10 weeks for them receive their travel documents and arrive in the USA.
What happens if we decide that our au pair is incompatible with our family?
If for some reason conflicts cannot be resolved, you may continue to continue the program with a different au pair. We will work with you to find someone who is more compatible to your family’s needs
Can we get an au pair at any time of the year?
Yes.
What happens if there is an emergency?
You can contact Premier Au Pair 24 hours per day/365 days a year.
Does Premier Au Pair have male au pairs?
We do have male au pairs (bro pairs); but, the majority of our au pairs are female.
